Was is currently the best eReader that isn’t forcing you into an ecosystem (like Kindle)?

Seems like many are moving towards LCP in the future for e-books. But last I heard the NoDRM gang had to exclude the LCP DeDRM from the Calibre plugin due to legal issues (GitHub), and either way it was for an older version of LCP so it wouldn’t work nowadays. Do you think someone will come up with a way to DeDRM these?

In case this helps anyone else out. I was looking to replace the battery on my Boox Max Lumi but couldn’t find any replacement batteries for the 1st gen specifically. Turns out the Max 2 battery replacement fits perfectly in the pre-existing battery recess. The battery connector also fits, although I did have to extend the cables.

Question for those of you here. I recently purchased a used Boox Note Air 4C so that my son could read manga on a larger screen than the ancient kindle paperwhite we had previously. I’ve been running a Booklore library and using KOReader on the kindle so he can fetch the books down that he wants. The first thing I did when setting up the new Boox was to grab KOReader and point it to our local Booklore OPDS catalogue.

Hey all, ive been looking at ereaders, and have been pretty bummed at the field. I dont really give a shit about note taking, and want a larger display (10 or 11 inches). I dont need any AI on it… The issue is, i cant find a larger display that DOESNT cram in the note taking/ai. I just want a reader. Before you say get a tablet, i realize thats an option, but not one i want to persue. I want the longevity of a eink display.

My Kindle Oasis 2017 seems to have broken. I love that it’s screen (Seems to be just plain old “Carta” with no numbers) does not need the backlight on to be readable in even pretty dim lighting.

I try to test my epub files on a different devices. I have a Sony PRS-300 to see how the files look on older ereaders.

E-ink monitors exist. The only issue i could see with trying to combine them is the size difference. What good ereaders can plug into a computer and act as a second monitor?

I’m thinking of getting an ereader since i prefer reading paper to reading on a normal computer and most of my library is digital.

I have an aging Kindle and am looking for a new eReader to both read books and articles I’ve saved throughout the day. I use Wallabag to save articles. I like it over Pocket because it’s better for paywalls because it fetches content directly from the browser.

I recently got my Kobo Elipsa 2E and it’s better than I expected, especially the simplicity of OS and how well handwriting generally works were a surprise to me.

I’ve been gifted a Sony PRS-T3 over a decade ago. I’ve recently gotten into reading again and used it to read a manhwa/webtoon/web novel (or whatever the Korean ones are called) and most recently a light novel. Hello, I am looking for a 7 or 8 inch e reader which supports KOreader. I dont have to big expectations, it should just have a Touchscreen and preferably wifi so I can wirelessly transfer books to it. I currently use an old kobo aura, and ereaders based on Linux are pretty interesting to me, but i also dont really care if the device runs Android. Does the Nextcloud SyncClient (Android) work on any ereader? I’d love to use it to snc my books and notes, but the blueish interface does not display at all on my monochrome eink tablet. Does anyone use Nextcloud successfully on a b/w device?

My Boox Page just received this firmware update today. It was on version 3.5 before. I don’t see any release notes on their website yet, but here’s a summary of what’s showing on my device:

So, I’ve got a 9th generation Kindle Oasis and its battery is really starting to show its age. This is also one of the models where it is damn near impossible to replace the battery. Any attempts that I have read about online resulted in broken screens and sadness.
