If you want anonymity and security on Linux, you should consider using the Tor network, and this simple app makes that easy.🤔

Expanding my laptops HDD capacity

Community iconselfhosted@lemmy.world by
A laptop with a DIY HDD cage carrying 4 HDDs.

I have an old Acer Aspire A515-51G and I also have a desire to have a home server. In combination this creates a need for the laptop to carry more HDDs than it can from factory. Usually it can take one M.2 SSD and one 2.5” SATA drive.

Do you know a remote NAS backup solution without Tailscale?

Community iconselfhosted@lemmy.world by

I currently use Borg for all my backups. To have a remote backup I placed my old Synology NAS at a family member and connected it to tailscale (via a tailscale docker container). That way I could also can do Borg backups to that remote NAS.

Data organization

Community iconselfhosted@lemmy.world by

I am fairly new in the selfhosting business. I host a few services like Jellyfin or AdGuard, but most of my data just sits on plain SMB shares on my NAS.

Reitti v5.0.0: Custom Maps, Timeline Stitching, and License Evolution

Community iconselfhosted@lemmy.world by

“Reitti” (Finnish for “route” or “path") is a self-hosted, personal location tracking and analysis platform. It is designed from the ground up with a privacy-first philosophy: all your data remains under your absolute control, stored exclusively on your own infrastructure. You own the database, you own your history, and you own your memories.

Make clients autodiscover Jellyfin over your router

Community iconjellyfin@lemmy.ml by

https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/post-install/networking/ tells me “Additionally, in local networks, Jellyfin offers various Auto-Discovery services. These will not work outside your local subnet.”

Ideas for self hosted door bell

Community iconselfhosted@lemmy.world by

We want a new door bell and we will even be able to run new wires (currently we only have 2 Wires). I would like to have video and 2 way audio locally hosted, though the most important thing is, that the base functionality (door bell button with connected wireless door chimes through the house) needs to be absolutely reliable (no random connectivity issues).

Nextcloud on Ereader (Mobiscribe Origin)

Community iconereader_community@lemmy.ml by

Does the Nextcloud SyncClient (Android) work on any ereader? I’d love to use it to snc my books and notes, but the blueish interface does not display at all on my monochrome eink tablet. Does anyone use Nextcloud successfully on a b/w device?
